District 2-4a champions Rimers of Eldritch
Once again the kids step up to the plate and hit a home run in the bottom of the ninth with the game tied and two outs in the books. Clearly the best performance of the year last night. We had a few line flubs but the kids didn't get rattled and they proceeded to blow everybody else out of the water. Congratulations go out to Ysleta high school who advanced to the area competition along with us. Luren Ruiz won the best actress award with her performance of Eva Jackson. All-star cast: Jasmine Cobos, David Estrada, Josh Lopez, Jackie Gomez, and Cynthia Jimenez. Maria Edwards won an honorable mention award. The tech crew also won best technical crew award. We will perform next Thursday at the Chamizal for the area championship. Out theatre company has won the district title four out of the past five years.
Thoughts from the Chamizal from our Light person Nidia Aguilera
Yesterday,
at first, was extremely tiring, with wind of almost 50 mph blowing across us, taking us unexpectedly...just like we did in our night's performance of Rimers of Eldritch at The Chamizal Theatre. Before we presented that night, we attended our tech rehearsal which took place around 12:30 p.m., we didn't think we had a winning chance, we were frightened at the fact that this can actually be our last time rehearsing and performing this breath taking and moral inspiring play. We were nervous, I always am, so I ignored my own pressure in which was put upon our director(s) to do an incredible job on my, ok, ok their light board. We had many hours ahead of us before we were up to perform, about 7 or 8 hours. Imagine being together with actors and actresses that are "divas". A weird experience, none the less. It in fact was a long and hard day.
But after looking at it in winning eyes, it was a night that should have been enjoyed and pondered long after the stage lights have dimmed and the play has ended.

2-4a zone champions
We advanced last night in the 2-4a zone one-act play competition at El Dorado High School. Ysleta high school advanced with us with their show "The Lesson" by Eugene Ionesco. Canutillo got knocked out with their show "One flew over the Cuckoo's nest" Their actor who played McMurphy didn't receive any acting award even though he pretty much carried the show. He was easily the best actor. I really liked the cast of Ysleta's show though there show was a little short (24 minutes). Jasmine Cobos received best actress from our show and we took 6 out of the 8 all-star cast acting awards. Sergio Estrada won an honorable mention award for his portrayal of Skelly Manor. Was really proud of our work however we do have alot of things we need to fix before we can move any further. We compete next week (April 1st) at the Chamizal theatre for the district 2-4a championship. We will be watching the second round tonight at El Dorado to see who our opponents will be.
